It’s no question that some things are better than others; everyone has their favorite book or movie that they consider the best of the best. Our staff is no different, as our team is filled with a menagerie of people with different tastes. Here are The Lariat 2020-2021 staff’s favorite books, movies, songs and television shows:

Books

Written by cult-favorite author Sarah J. Maas, her debut series “Throne of Glass” is staff writer Kamdyn Roher’s all-time favorite book series. “Throne of Glass,” is the first installation in an eight-part series. Click here to see a full synopsis and reviews.

Inspired by the award-winning Broadway musical of the same name, “Dear Evan Hansen,” written by Val Emmich, Steven Levenson, Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, is Print Editor-in-Chief Arielle Kraus’s number one novel recommendation. This is a stand-alone novel, perfect for fans of the musical. Click here to see a full synopsis and reviews.

“A Man Called Ove,” written by Fredrik Backman, is what staff writer Elena Ashburn deems to be her best read. This novel was originally written in Swedish and has a movie adaptation of the same name. Click here to see a full synopsis and reviews.

Staff writer Nina Ramirez’s favorite series is “Chaos Walking” by Patrick Ness, a science fiction trilogy. The series begins with the novel “The Knife of Never Letting Go.” Click here to see a full synopsis and reviews of this first book.

Unlike the other recommendations, head editor Jaelyn Yeampierre’s favorite story is much older. “The Count of Monte Cristo,” written by Alexandre Dumas, is a literary classic written in 1844 that Yeampierre enjoys. Click here to see a full synopsis and reviews.

Another classic, “Pride and Prejudice” by Jane Austen, is staff writer Nicole Nadler’s favorite book. A household name, “Pride and Prejudice,” comes in a variety of editions and has quite a few movie adaptations. Click here to see a full synopsis and reviews.
