Broward County Public School (BCPS) mandated clear bags, backpacks and lunchboxes for the upcoming 2023-2024 school year. This will go into effect for CCHS students starting Monday, August 21. Visitors, volunteers, faculty and staff are exempt from this policy.

“The purpose of this requirement is to add an additional layer of safety across our District and provide added safeguards for our students, staff, and faculty,” the BCPS website stated.

Student-athletes and those in band are allowed to bring school-approved equipment when necessary. Thermal food containers and a pouch for personal hygiene products are also permitted for all students. Other than these exceptions, students who do not have a clear bag are subject to search.

“Taking away students’ privacy and ability to express themselves will not solve the very political issue that is school threats and shootings,” junior Isabella Lages said.

This sentiment is shared by many, but despite this, students should still expect the policy to be heavily enforced during this upcoming school year.
