Cooper City High school will be opening up parking decal sales to juniors on Wednesday, September 7th at 3 P.M. in the cafeteria.

In order to obtain a parking decal, students must have a signed parking application and student parking rules, along with a copy of their current driver’s license, a copy of the insurance for the vehicle and a copy of the registration for the vehicle. As of right now, students must have an unweighted 3.5 GPA or they are not eligible for a parking spot. The decal costs $60.

“Parking is a privilege and since it is so limited, we must first give parking to seniors and then we open it up to [eligible] juniors,” Assistant Principal Vera Perkovic said. “And because we are so limited, students are only allowed to park in the back lot.”

Many students at CCHS have been anticipating the day they can finally drive to school. With the option finally open to Juniors, many students plan to take full advantage of the opportunity.

“I’ve been waiting since freshman year to drive myself,” Junior Caleb Neale said. “I finally don’t have to beg seniors for rides.”

Since parking at CCHS is a privilege, students should expect consequences if they break the parking rules. Actions such as speeding, parking in incorrect locations, leaving without proper paperwork, or an excess amount of tardies can end in suspension of their decal or even permanent revocation.

To obtain their decal, qualified students are granted access to park in the junior lot on Dudley Road near the baseball fields and place their signed parking pass application on their windshield. This will act as a pass for Wednesday, the 7th, because decals will not be sold and applied to cars until 3 P.M. Wednesday afternoon.

Parking at CCHS has been a problem for years, with only seniors and select juniors being able to park.

“We are trying to do what we can with what we have,” Assistant Principal Perkovic said. “I appreciate everyone’s patience.”

All information about junior parking, including forms and a list of the rules can be found on the CCHS website, or click the link below.
