In light of the upcoming February 23rd fashion show, Cooper City High School’s Level 2 Fashion Marketing class is hosting modeling tryouts this week. A well-known and popular school event, the fashion show aims to encourage self-confidence in students and explore potential career goals.

Tryouts are scheduled for November 9th and 10th in room 4007, directly after school. High heels are recommended for girls, but not required.

“We’re looking for confidence and an inner sense of beauty,” Kiara Bencosme, a member of the modeling committee, said. “And, of course, their walk.”

The tryouts consist in part of walking and posing to music chosen by the judges. The modeling committee judges the overall look, walk, and confidence of the models in order to decide which potential models will make the final cut.

“The try outs were nerve-wracking, and I didn’t know what to expect,” Leon Sardes, who participated in Cooper’s fashion show last year, said. “But honestly, I gained a load of confidence. After I made it, I was ecstatic. I wouldn’t trade my experience for the world.”

However, walking the walk is not the only part of the tryout, so students should be prepared to impress the judges further with an impromptu section. The modeling committee is not currently allowed to disclose a description of the full tryout experience.

“The show is meant for the models to have fun, try something new, and in the end rock the runway,” added Bencosme. “And it gives our fashion marketing students an opportunity to plan an event and run it, which is an opportunity taken seriously by our fellow students and our teacher Mrs. Snider.”

Cooper’s fashion show has provided crucial experience for students interested in modeling and led to future endeavors in the industry. On November 12, former Cooper model Sardes will be participating in Macy’s fashion show. Citing the school fashion show as necessary exposure for his upcoming runway walk, Sardes says the show and advisor Ms. Snider boosted his morale and made him comfortable enough to walk the runway.

“The show was superb and left everyone in awe,” he said.

The fashion show committee welcomes all interested students and looks forward to seeing all participants this coming Wednesday and Thursday.
