A simp and a nice guy walk into a bar: Which one is a decent human being

Most women have found themselves face to face with a stereotypical nice guy. However, hiding in the shadows of their comments and actions lies their true intentions. 

On social media, there has been an overflow of the use of the term ‘simp.’ One of the main social media outlets that brought this term into the light is the entertainment app TikTok. Paired with an instrumental sound, most of these videos about being a simp contain the words “welcome to simp nation.”

To gain more clarity on this situation, the difference between a simp and a nice guy needs to be made. A simp is a person who is outwardly a nice guy. In some people’s eyes, these are people who bend over backward for women or who even humiliate themselves by giving in to a woman’s desires. This is also true for nice guys. They do what they need to do to make a woman happy, or just be a regular guy and treat them with respect. But the difference lies in what true intentions a man has.

A man can be nice to a woman like a regular person should be to another. A man should be treating other women with respect and with kindness in most situations, and this should be the normal way that women are treated by men. But nowadays, some men use their kindness and respect that they give to a woman as tools to get women with them in a romantic or sexual light.

Within a simp’s mind, every respectable action deserves compensation from the woman. Being a decent human being to a woman is apparently supposed to entitle a man to that woman and her relationships. 

These types of men are not new to any woman in society today. Most women have had an interaction with a simp once in their lives, so the fact that men like this exist isn’t anything new. One of the biggest things being brought into light through TikTok is the connection between simps and their toxicity. 

The whole trend with “simp nation” that is found on TikTok consists of a person presenting a certain action and in turn, putting the phrase “welcome to simp nation.’ This trend began to expose the toxic actions that men or even women will take to get what they want from another person.

Multiple posts have begun to blend the lines between being a decent human being, being a simp and rape culture. Most posts in this trend have begun to point out all the toxic actions that people do to others. Actions such as ‘buying her dinner’ or ‘taking care of her when she’s sick’ or ‘constantly providing her with conversation and listening to her,’ are shown to be used against others as actions that mean something different. 

Treating somebody like a human being should not have an ulterior motive. Stop playing the nice guy, and actually be the nice guy. 

All of these actions are normal, kind and respectful acts that people do with friends and such. Nothing is over the top, they are all just some kind gestures that should be normal in today’s society. But apparently, giving care to another person means showing that you want to be in a relationship with them. 

Treating somebody like a human being should not have an ulterior motive. Stop playing the nice guy, and actually be the nice guy.
