On Friday, February 27th, the Cooper City Cowboys boys and girls tennis teams played the West Broward Bobcats in their season opener. The Cowboys dominated their opposition, as the boys and girls won their games with relative ease.

The boys and girls played a total of 7 matches – 5 of them are singles matches, where the top 5 players play a match up to 8, and then there are 2 doubles matches. In order for CCHS to win, they’d have to win at least 4 matches because that’s the majority. Cayla Yellen, Isabella Aloya, Jenna Skop, and Hannah Riggott all won their singles matches. After singles, Hannah Riggott and Jenna Skop won their doubles match, which gave the lady Cowboys the win against the Bobcats.

The boys also swept their opponents, winning all 5 of their singles matches. Brothers Michael and Jonathon Zinn both contributed to the Cowboys victory by winning their matches. Unfortunately, the Cowboys did not have the chance to play a doubles match, because they ran out of time.

“For the first match of the season, we performed really well.” Junior Hannah Riggott said. “We still have room for improvements, but to come out and sweep a very good Bobcat team is a big accomplishment.”
