In the District 12-6A semifinals, the Cooper City Cowboys’ girls basketball team took on the Flanagan Falcons.  The Falcons got off to a strong start, kicking off the game on an 8-0 run.  The Cowboys responded with an 8 point run of their own, tying the score at 8-8.  Flanagan responded with a 3-pointer to close the first quarter with a score of 11-8.

The Falcons defensive magic was present early on in the second quarter, but as the quarter went on, the Cowboys began to dominate on both ends of the floor.  The Cowboys closed the first half on a 16-0 run, pushing to a large lead of 26-16 at halftime.

The Falcons came out strong defensively in the third quarter and played good for the rest of the game.  After a productive third quarter for the Falcons, the score was 30-23 with the Cowboys still in the lead.

The Cowboys put the game nearly out of reach after starting the first two minutes of the forth with five unanswered points, but Flanagan responded with a 5-0 run of their own.  With little time left, the Cowboys were able to run off the clock and finish the game with a 36-30 win despite the strong defensive half of the Falcons.

The team will be playing in the District finals tomorrow February 5th at home against the Cypress Bay Lightning at 7 p.m. pitting Katarina Maldonado, Cypress Bay’s leading scorer, against Chanlir Segarra. Segarra ranks as Broward County’s overall leading scorer.
