All-American singer and songwriter Taylor Swift finally dropped a new album Red.  On Red, Taylor expresses herself with catchy tunes and opens up to the techno and pop world to expand her audience.

Red introduces a new kick to Taylor Swift’s music. In the song “I Knew You Were Trouble” Swift introduces techno into her music; a big departure from her usual country tone. Although Swift changed up the instrumentals, she is still treading the same lyrical ground as before; singing about old relationships, mistakes, and lessons learned.  She pleads “I knew you were trouble when you walked in, so shame on me now.” Lyrics such as these make her relatable to her audience. They portray her as just another normal person with normal problems, even if she isn’t anymore.

“We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” is an addictive pop anthem and whenever I read the title someone’s name automatically pops into my head. Even though the song is easy to relate to, it gets cheesy and quite repetitive. Swift sings, “I say, I hate you, we break up, you call me, I love you” which is a tad cliché but makes the song catchy. Although this isn’t the best on the album, it is still worth listening to and I’ll be honest, I can’t seem to stop singing it.

Taylor Swift’s album Red is a strong effort. Fans will appreciate the catchiness and comfortable relatability they have come to expect at this point. Every song is complimented by Swift’s bouncy and outgoing personality but also shows her expanding musically. This album is definitely a success.
