Adrenaline coursing through your body, the drums shaking the ground below you, and the people around you singing their hearts out, this is what a 30 Seconds To Mars concert is like.

The Closer To The Edge Tour took place at the Sunset Cove Amphitheater in Boca Raton on April 24, 2011.  Lead singer Jared Leto stole the show along with some girl’s hearts. With his great voice and good looks he definitely kept the crowd going, egging them on to sing louder, to jump higher, and to even come as close as possible to the stage making this concert experience different than most, especially in the small amphitheater setting it was in. The intimacy of the venue increased the electricity and connection between band and audience.

The band played a few songs from their 2005 album A Beautiful Lie, but most came from 2009’s This Is War, generally considered their best album by fans out of the three they’ve made.

During the show, even casual fans were caught up in the moment, screaming the lyrics loudly with everyone around them to make a beautiful group chorus. The band’s most popular song “The Kill (Bury Me)” was the best of the night, with everyone singing every word and Leto running around the stage. His screams were chilling and the drums practically replaced the audience’s heartbeat. It was a feeling like no other. Some others highlights of the set were “This Is War”, “Closer To The Edge”, “Attack”,  “Vox Populi”, and “A Beautiful Lie”. Each song was a rush of excitement and left the crowd wondering what Leto would do next.

When Leto came back for an acoustic encore you could hear people’s reactions, some good and some indifferent. When “From Yesterday”, a popular song off their album A Beautiful Lie was sung, a few fans were disappointed. “I would rather have the band come back on to play this song, it’s so powerful.” I overheard a guy standing next to me say. As much as I agreed with that statement, Leto’s acoustic set as a whole was great, he played three songs including “Hurricane” and “Search And Destroy” and made everyone repeat the lyrics after him so he can hear the audience loud and clear.

Leto ended the night on a great note by pulling about 20 people up on stage with him including a guy in a wheel chair for their final number, “Kings And Queens”. Everyone sang and jumped along with the beat, standing as close to the stage as possible. The people on stage were having the time of their lives. It seemed like a dream come true to those onstage and even as a fan watching from the audience, you had to feel happy for them as you saw their smiles and excitement. 30 Seconds To Mars was an unforgettable concert experience that no 3D movie or Youtube video can capture.
