The Cooper City High School PTSA will be hosting the 3rd annual Stampede-kick off to Homecoming, on Thursday, October 11th on the baseball field. The event, which starts at the beginning of 4th period and runs through B lunch, will serve as a reward for students who participate in the fundraising. Proceeds from the event will go toward new technology for students to use in the classroom this year such as Kindle e-readers, increased memory for laptops, graphing calculators and iPads.

Envelopes were distributed last week for students to begin collecting donations for the Stampede. Students who raise a minimum of twenty dollars are entitled to get out of class, enjoy great food and participate in a variety of fun activities. For each additional twenty dollars raised by each student they will receive raffle tickets to win prizes, including a PS3, Wii, Xbox, DS 3D, a $250 gift card to a store of their choice, and park passes to Walt Disney World. Prizes specifically geared toward seniors have been added this year as well. They include a stretch limo, tuxedo and gown rentals from “Dress Rehearsal”, hairstyling, corsages and boutonnieres from Field of Flowers and more.

According to Steve Schultze, Vice President of the PTSA, many new activities have been added to the event this year including Foam Wars, Carnival Games, and Sparez outdoor bowling. There will also be a “Pie in the Face” activity. For just five dollars students can toss a pie in the face of faculty members including Mrs. Doll, Mr. Pluim, Mr. Pichardo, Coach Taylor and Mr. Kelly. The Stampede will additionally feature a DJ, photo booth, extreme obstacle course, tattoo booth, intoxication goggles and a mobile gaming theater, as well as food from Tijuana Flats, Pretzel Heaven, Menchies, Pizza Mia, Beef O’ Brady’s, Red Robin and Dunkin Donuts.

The PTSA is hoping that this event will be both fun for students and a way to help raise a lot of money for the school. “If just two out of every five students in each classroom participate and raise the minimum pledge, we will have $15,000 to spend on new technology,” Schultze said. “It’s a totally achievable goal.”
