The one hundred and fifty frenzied fans didn’t let the dropping temperature keep them from standing outside the Culture Room. Girls with homemade shirts and massive glittered posters dominated the crowd as they all waited anxiously for Allstar Weekend to arrive for their first headlining tour, Suddenly Yours.

The native San Diego, California band is finally accomplishing their dream of breaking into the music industry. All Star Weekend, consisting of lead singer Zach Porter, guitarist Nathan Darmody, bassist Cameron Quiseng, and drummer Michael Martinez, first got their start by appearing on a Disney Channel show called Next Big Thing. Although Disney helped launch their career, All Star Weekend is branching out. In 2009, the band was signed to Hollywood Records.

After touring with Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez, these talented musicians are finally stepping into the spotlight for their first headlining tour. Suddenly Yours was released on October 19, 2010 and is their first official full-length album. They draw their influences from artists such as Blink 182 and Queen. But like most artists, the band says that their inspiration comes from what goes on in their every day life.

“We write about what goes on in our lives, girls, relationships, and our own personal stories and lives,” Porter said.

The fans went wild as All Star Weekend belted out the most popular singles off of the album. Only an arms-length away, the crowd sang along and danced non-stop to songs such as “A Different Side of Me” and “Come Down With Love.”

Lead singer Zach Porter interacted with the fans throughout the concert.

The audience’s enthused energy mainly derived from the band itself. The band members ran around the stage, smiling from ear to ear. They tended to make their fans swoon from time to time by reaching out for their hands. Porter’s voice was full of true passion; you could actually feel his emotions from the back of the room.

When they slowed things down during the song “Amy”, the band picked one lucky girl to go up on stage. The envy radiating off every girl in the crowd was palpable as she soaked in the song being performed directly in front of her.

The whole concert ended with the band performing an acoustic version of one of their songs. The four members stood together and sang in unison, making their fans melt.

“The best part was when all of the guys came together,” senior Hannah Sutkar said. It was a perfect way to end the show.”

One of All Star Weekend’s most special aspects is their commitment to their fans. They even offered a meet and greet to interact with the audience.

“We love our fans and try to meet every single one of them,” Porter said.

During the concert, they spoke to the crowd on a personal level. Despite how popular they have become, Allstar Weekend was very down to earth and seemed to be enjoying every moment of their performance. The whole concert felt like they were hanging out with everyone and just having a great time.

“Three words I would use to describe the whole touring experience would be exciting, spontaneous, and definitely rewarding,” Porter said.

Allstar Weekend got their start on Disney Channel and recently got their own record deal.
