On Tuesday, September 17 the Cooper City High Girls Varsity Volleyball Team faced off against the McArthur Mustangs. Playing a total of 5 sets, the Cowboys fought until the very end, winning 3-2.

Despite the close score the Cowboys won the first set due to strong offense. Senior Paige Lokeinsky and Junior Isabella Martin each scored once for the Cowboys and the set was capped off by sophomore’s Carly Smitherman and Zoey Hobson (who both got 3 kills apiece) the Cowboys took the victory with a score of 25-20.

In the second set, MacArthur came out motivated. Despite impressive offense from Senior Jackie Smith and Lokeinsky, the Mustangs ended up winning the second set 25-23.

Fueled by that loss, the Cowboys came out in set three firing on all cylinders. Juniors Haley Osceola and Sarah Gannon each picked up one kill while Lokeinsky and Smith both picked up two kills.  Unable to derail the Cowboy offense MacArthur fell and CCHS cruised on to win the third set 25-9.

However, the Cowboys struggled to maintain this momentum through Set four. Unable to capitalize on offense, the Mustangs took advantage of the Cowboy’s mistakes and won 25-16, pushing the game to a fifth and final set.

With the game on the line, the Cowboys came out ready to play.  Sophomore stars Hobson and Smitherman both stepped up and made a huge impact in this final set by getting a combination of five kills. The Mustangs we’re unable to keep up. The Cowboys won the set 15-10, thus winning the game 3-2.
