The Varsity Girls basketball team came out with a victory on Jan. 10th, against the number 5 ranked team in Broward County, Cypress Bay.

The Lightning started out strong in the first half, but started to let up after halftime feeling confident in their lead. The Cowboys were undaunted going into the 3rd quarter with the county’s leading scorer, Chanlir Segarra, ready to dominate and put the Cowboys back in the game. Segarra helped make up a 9 point deficit that left the Cowboys only down 1 point going into the fourth quarter.

Tied 39-39 as time was running out in the fourth quarter, both teams looked as if they were settling for the inevitable overtime. But Segarra wasn’t finished. Taking the ball a little past half court, Segarra fired a last second shot as the buzzer sounded. It was the 3-point answer the Cowboys were looking for.

Taking the lead at 42-39 with no time left, the Cowboys picked up redemption from their 54-52 Overtime loss to the Lighting earlier this season, and gave Cypress Bay their second loss of the season.

Segarra had a game high 27 points, carrying the Cowboys to victory.
