The CCHS girls’ basketball team faced off against Cypress Bay High School at home this past Thursday night.

The Cowboys had trouble putting down points early on in the game.

A struggling offence for the Cowboys showed on the scoreboard in the first half as they trailed 15-25 at half-time.

After some changes going into the second half, the girls came out with more energy both offensively and defensively. A streak beginning late in the third quarter and following into the fourth led the Cowboys to be down by only 2 points with 2.5 seconds left in the fourth quarter of this game. Through strong concentration, the girls’ team made their two free throws forcing the game into overtime.

In overtime, the score went back and forth the entire time and it seemed as if there would be no ending to this game. Unfortunately, the girls’ basketball team lost to the Lightning, 52-54. This loss dropped their record to 2-4. Seniors Chanlir Segarra and Shana Edouard finished with 22 points and 13 points, respectively.

Come out next Tuesday at Flanagan High School at 6 p.m. to support the girls’ basketball team.
