As COVID-19 continues to get in the way, people are looking for a way out, for freedom and liberation. COVID-19 often brings to mind masks and social distancing, but covering half of one’s face and staying away from others will no longer be a problem once COVID is officially over. Here are some things to look forward to when that day comes:

Large gatherings

For about eight months, there were no such things as large gatherings. There were a lot of rules, restrictions and boundaries. For the average person, it feels like an alternate universe, being stuck in a bottomless hole of boredom and dismay. Things like concerts, parties and family reunions were postponed until the deadly virus would gradually stop. However, doctors and scientists have been working tirelessly on getting a vaccine to help prevent the virus from infecting more people. The vaccine will continue to do its job, and after COVID-19, we will be able to have fun at concerts, invite friends over for parties and see family with no precautions.

Traveling

Nothing says freedom like vacation. Because of quarantine everyone was far from each other. Airports were shut down and everyone was ordered to stay inside unless for things of priority like going to grocery stores or visiting a doctor’s office. Now, there are few restrictions for going on planes and seeing others again. People are once again able to see friends and family through airplanes or going on road trips. Once COVID-19 is over, we can visit more friends and family and enjoy warm reunions.

No more 6-foot distance

Large gatherings and traveling are both things that ignore the rule of 6-foot distance. So, it’s almost impossible to do those without breaking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines. Once the irritating virus is gone, we will have the privilege of hugging friends and family again without having to worry about staying away from one another.

No more masks

Covering more than half of your face is not the ideal way to socialize. Not recognizing others or not hearing correctly was considered “normal” for almost a year. After COVID-19, we will be capable of meeting more people and breathing normally, without warm air coming back at our face due to the mask.

Going back to in-person school

Though COVID-19 is dangerous, school has started again and students are able to go back physically in most states. Yet so many students are still communicating over a bright screen. Once COVID-19 is over and it is safe to go back, students will feel the relief of going back to normal school, being able to socialize again and understanding school work better. CCHS students will be able to talk to teachers about assignments and walk around Cowboy territory once again.

COVID-19 can be an intimidating virus to overcome. However, once it is all concluded and it is safe to go anywhere without being infected, the only thing that would scare us at that point is our fear of the future alone.
