On Thursday November 4, the boys junior varsity basketball team faced off against the Coral Glades Jaguars at CCHS in their first game of the season. The Cowboys have been preparing for their first game, hoping to start the season off with a win. They were scheduled to play Coral Glades, but it did not go in favor of the Cowboys, with the Jaguars winning with a score of 32-18.

The game began with Coral Glades winning the tip off. The Cowboys quickly got back on defense and were able to force the ball out of bounds, gaining possession. The Cowboys were able to drive the ball down the court and take a shot. The shot was missed, but Matthew Archy was there for the rebound, but was fouled while going up for the layup. Archy was able to make the lay up and receive an and one. Although he missed the free throw, he still put the Cowboys ahead by two points.

Coral Glades got the ball back and was able to find an open pass in the paint, making the layup to tie the game. The Jaguars were able to defend the Cowboys and get the rebound, driving down the court to score another two points. Coral Glades was able to make another steal and get a fast break, putting another two points on the board. Glades was on the move down the court again and was able to throw a shot up that was blocked by Archey, giving Cooper City possession. Billy Brennan was able to get the ball and drive in, but then pull up and take a two-point shot, making the score 6-4. Coral Glades was able to take the ball down again for another two points. Coral Glades got in between the pass, taking the ball back to make another uncontested layup.

With the ball back in their possession, Cooper City slowed it down and worked on getting points on the scoreboard. Brennan was left uncovered and was passed the ball to take a wide open three-point shot. The ball found its way in the net, putting the Cowboys behind by only three points. A foul by Cooper City gave Coral Glades a throw in, where they were able to make another three-point shot. Another foul on Cooper City gave Coral Glades two free throw shots. The Jaguars only make one free throw and put the score at 14-7.  Coral Glades was on a fast break, but Marc Cody was able to get back and keep the Jaguars from scoring. Nick Kromer was able to take the ball down and make his way through Coral Glades defense, making a lay up. Glades received another throw-in from a foul by Cooper City and was able to make another three-point shot.

Ethan Silverman was able to stop another breakaway and foul the Jaguars. Glades missed both shots and Cooper City was given the ball back. The Jaguars made a steal and took the ball back, scoring two points. Glades took the ball back and put two more points again. Cooper City slowed it down and Matthew Schwam was able to make a great pass to Brennan, who then made a three-point shot. Glades was able to make an and one and gain three more points. Michael Potes took the ball down the court and attempted to run one of their many plays, scoring three more points. Cooper City was able to get another shot off before halftime, finishing the half with a score of 18-32.

After halftime, the game continued the same as before with Coral Glades mostly dominating the ball. The game ended with a score of 68-35. Silverman was able to drop six points in the second half, followed by Kromer who was able to drop four points in the second half. The Cowboys will try to redeem themselves at their next game on Monday, December 4 against McArthur High School. The game will be held at 4:30 at Cooper City High School.
